His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi,
Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the American
University in Sharjah chaired a meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
University at the conference hall university building yesterday morning.
Prince welcomed in the beginning of the meeting attendees
and thanked the members of the Board of Trustees for their sincere efforts
aimed at the development of the university. He expressed satisfaction with the
university witnessed the evolution and prosperity in line with the mission and
strategic initiatives.
Dr Peter Heath Rector, The director of the university said
after the meeting that the Council under the chairmanship of His Highness the
Ruler of Sharjah has approved the establishment of Industrial Engineering
Department to include a bachelor's program in industrial engineering and
master's in systems engineering management.
This resolution is in line with the university offering
Bachelor of Industrial Engineering in September / September, 2012 to meet the
needs of the industry and meet the results of a field study conducted

to hire graduates of this specialty from the University of American in Sharjah.
Dr. Heath explained, "The Bachelor of Industrial
Engineering completes loop engineering programs offered in the College of
Engineering at the university, making it the College unique at the regional
level, the diversity of programs. Include most of the key engineering
disciplines. “He added that this program is in line with the strategic
objectives of the university, according to the vision of His Highness the Ruler
of Sharjah in the graduation generations possesses the qualifications and
competencies high to meet the market needs of industrial and economic growing
and in support for the sustainability of the growth and development of the UAE”.
The Board of Trustees expressed gratitude to His Highness
Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi for the guaranteed funding for several
additional buildings at the university and that work will begin this summer,
including accommodation for students and wing athlete and parking and entrances
for wheelchairs to the university.
He also thanked the Council Hameed Ahmed Siddiqui, Vice
President Ahmed Siddiqui & Sons, to create a department named “Ahmed
Siddiqui of the Gulf Studies and Middle Eastern" through a generous gift
worth 15 million dirhams. This department will consolidate educational and
research programs wider to train future generations of researchers in this
strategic part of the world with eyes Gulf.
Dr. Heath said that the Council issued a number of other
decisions, including changing the name of Design Department to become the
Department of Art and Design, and extended membership of Dr. Roderick French in
the Board of Trustees, and also agreed to finance small projects and approved the
final accounts for the financial year ending in May / May 2012. The committee also
received reports from university officials on many important issues.
Student clubs and exhibition organized by the Office of
Student Affairs in the Student Center was opened by His Highness the Ruler of
Sharjah His Highness after the meeting of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees and university officials
was accompanied during his inspection tour of the exhibition. His Highness
toured the exhibition booths, which includes 54 clubs including 28 clubs of
different nationalities and 26 clubs for a variety of hobbies. These clubs
represent various cultural and social activities and sports at the university.
The gallery of student clubs is one of the biggest events organized by students
in the campus, where interested decorated suites that represent their clubs in
bright flags and traditional costumes, posters, cheerfully music to suit the
activities of their clubs, and wore mostly clothes of their national.
Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
welcomed the visit of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for the exhibition,
stressing the visit will have a deep impact in the hearts of the students
involved. She noted that the exhibition aims to inform students about the
extra-curricular activities available at the university, educational possibilities
outside the classroom. She said that the gallery of student clubs is the
platform for cultural and scientific clubs to increase their members and to
plan for the World Day Festival, which is the largest cultural festival at the
university.
The gallery student clubs helps to create diverse clubs on
campus with scientific and cultural reorientation and those interested in
refining the hobbies and interests, and give them the opportunity to join. The
Office of Student Affairs departments also present at the exhibition to
acquaint students with the services they provide. She added: "I hope that
our students benefit from the opportunity to extra-curricular activities that
we offer them and experience the benefits."
